Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian/American media critic is also a public speaker. Feminist Frequency is a website with video and an online blog on the representation of women in pop culture. Anita Sarkeesian has been a media critic, blogger and award-winning feminist for over 10 years. Feminist Frequency is an educational site for non-profit organizations that examines female representations in the popular media narratives. She's committed to removing stereotypes about women and how they are portrayed in popular media. In addition she has a mission to increase the awareness of harassment on social media targeted at women, and other those who are marginalized. Sarkeesian is a graduate in political thought and social theory at York University. She is also a highly-respected public speaker. Sarkeesian delivered speeches to the TEDxWomen XOXO Fest and United Nations Broadband Working Group. Passionate about issues of gender and feminism since the age of 7, she started her website Feminist Frequency in 2009 while studying at the University. She had a plan to launch a web series that would examine gender-based representations in video games. However, she was the subject of an online harassment campaign. This attack didn't stop her, rather it strengthened her determination as feminist media critic. She is a recipient of many awards for her contributions to the cause of feminism. Anita Sarkeesian has been a media critic for many years and is the founder of Feminist Frequency. This non-profit educational organization studies women's roles in pop culture narratives.
